Job Description

Under general supervision of the Deputy Chief Disciplinary Counsel Litigation and the Chief Disciplinary Counsel, is responsible for paralegal work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Gathers legal case information
  • Prepares subpoenas
  • Conducts legal and ethics research, online or otherwise
  • Prepares and drafts responses to public records requests
  • Drafts and files responses to Petitions for Reinstatements of Administrative Suspensions
  • Drafts Petitions for Discipline and other pleadings
  • Assists with the preparation of appellate briefs and cite checks
  • Assists with preparation for disciplinary hearings and attends hearings as needed
  • Assists with Trust Account overdraft files
  • Assists with investigations
  • Interviews witnesses
  • Maintains legal library
  • Maintains and tracks attorney compliance
  • Serves as back-up in the absence of the Executive Secretary

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited college, university or professional school with one of the following: (1) a paralegal certificate; (2) one year (28 semester hours) of graduate level law school; or (3) four years of full-time experience as a paralegal or legal assistant with duties of researching, drafting legal documents and assisting with hearing preparation may be substituted for college education.

SKILLS AND ABILITY: Knowledge of administrative principles, legal practices and terminology, office practices and procedures; ability to prioritize work according to general deadlines; experience in litigation preparation; proficiency in computer and word processing skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point; availability to travel when required; ability to maintain confidences due to the highly confidential nature of the work of the Board.

Candidates who are selected as finalists will be asked to complete several tasks to demonstrate competency and skill.
